I’d like to get some playing time in while I’m at my parents house for the holidays, but my Dad has a Mac.
I don’t like the java-based interface that is available on certain sites.

I have an Archos AV500 portable PVR. What’s the best way to load DVD’s?
Have access to MAC software, MacTheRipper and Toast 7 and PC’s Windows Media Player 10.
Why do commercial DVD’s hold several hours of video and the ones I make on my computer hold only 1 hour?
How come a DVD you buy in the store has 2 or 3 hours of data on it when the ones I make on iDVD or on a Windows program only hold 1 hour? Is there software you can buy for either a PC or Mac that allows you to put more data on a DVD and still retain excellent photo quality?

I’m considering whether to re-write or refresh an older software package that extensively used VB for its client side application. The Old VB client looks very 1998. What can VB do now as far as look and feel, or interface is concerned? Can it produce something very webby, like yahoo maps? Can it approach Mac-like fades and disolves? What are some good examples that can be seen?
Related question is, what toolsets are available to update the older clients with a new look and feel?
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
